What  a better place for a Farmers Market than a stone's throw from the growing fields in rural Washington Parish? On Saturday mornings a green space in the heart of Bogalusa is transformed into a bustling outdoor market that offers the freshest of fruits, vegetables and herbs, plus jellies, jams, baked goods, shrimp, ornamental plants and more in an atmosphere of wholesome family fun. One farmer has even been known to bring his pea sheller along with his peas. Entertainment, such as by the Bayou Dulcimer Club or area story tellers, is also often provided. New in 2005 juried arts & crafts vendors are included each Saturday.

The Bogalusa Farmers Market is located 400 Block of Avenue B at Goodyear Park. It runs from 7:30 to 11:30 am every Saturday.

Mile Branch Historical Settlement
Franklinton, LA
(985)-986-8411

Located on the Washington Parish Fairgrounds on the banks of the lovely stream from which the settlement takes its name, sits a collection of pioneer cabins built in the mid- to late 1800s and early 1900s. The Settlement began in 1976 as a tribute to the pioneering spirit of Washington Parish. During the annual Parish Fair you will see volunteers dressed in period costumes performing many daily chores such as cooking, quilting, weaving, and spinning. We encourage all visitors to closely observe each of the buildings that make up the Settlement. It is our hope that after examination you will leave with an increased knowledge of our early pioneer ancestors who worked so hard to achieve a livelihood and to carve out our beautiful Washington Parish. These cabins and other buildings were originally located throughout the piney woods of Washington Parish; however, they were actually many miles apart. They offer an educational experience of the way of life in the 1800s.

Mile Branch Settlement is open only twice each year during the Washington Parish Fair in the third week of October and Thanksgiving weekend for the Pioneer Christmas celebration. Group tours are available throughout the year. Please call in advance to arrange any visit. There are no charges for school tours if scheduled in advance. Donations are accepted.
